LFW: Angela Cassidy

2 Oct

The Knitty-Gritty…

Scottish knitwear designer and winner of the Scottish Fashion Award for Textile Brand of the Year, Angela Cassidy presented her second collection at LFW in September. Browns has already snapped her up for a collaborative project (to be seen at their stores throughout this AW/10 season) and when I went to have a look at her rails at ON/OFF’s Victoria House exhibition, people were swarming in her direction. Her pieces, unlike a lot of what you see at ON/OFF are incredibly wearable. She trusts us to recognise her outstanding technical abilities and imagination instead of using crazy shapes to attract students and journalists – a plan validated by Erin Mullaney and co. at Browns. If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to WEAR these beautiful pieces rather than just stare at them, to delight in her skill and talent. Would you agree?

Nicholas Kirkwood & Pollini collaborate with PREEN

18 Sep

Yes, Louboutin is awesome. Jimmy Choo holds a special place in my heart. Then Nicholas Kirkwood comes along with his angular, spiky, shapely shoes and I’ll never love another as much as he. I’ve never met a Kirkwood I haven’t liked. Look at these bad boys from is AW10 collection.

This week he has exciting news. As  Creative Director of Italian fashion house, Pollini he will launch the Pollini Fashion Designers Project. He has invited 5 designers to collaborate on the SS11 collection of shoes, to be shown at their SS11 shows. First was Preen in New York on 12th. These blue suede shoes are my favourite so far.

Next on the runway will be Michael Van der Ham, Louise Gray and Meadham Kirchhoff in London, then finally Manish Arora in Paris. I’ll be backstage at Meadham Kirchhoff so will hopefully see the new beauties then, but in the meantime feast your eyes on the gorgeous sketches for the Preen-Pollini heels. To die for.

Obviously they won’t be available to buy until February 2011, but that gives us all time to form a nice little obsession with them…
