Dear Grace… #1

Our first DEAR GRACE DILEMNA comes from Katie Antoniou of London…

Q / I have huge pores. So I need something to help, but preferably not anything super expensive, as I don’t want to be going through a £50 pot every week.

A / The most important thing is that you keep those pores clean so that they don’t block and give you spots. And sadly you can’t ‘shrink’ pores, c’est impossible – they’re genetic. Those with dry skin seem to have less apparent pores, whilst those with oilier skin often have a very obvious speckling across the face and décolletage. Sun damage doesn’t help – it causes the epidermis to thicken making them look bigger. So cleanse twice a day and wear an SPF to protect your skin from further damage. Key ingredients to look out for in your pore-clearing products are Vitamin A (unplugs blockages, preventing blackheads) and Salicylic Acid and AHAs, which remove dead skin cells and excess oil to prevent blockages. SkinCeuticals Equalizing Toner and Simply Clean products are worth a try. Alpha H’s Balancing Moisturiser is great too, but you need to add an SPF and avoid the sun as it contains Glycolic. Prices are mid-range, but they will last as you only need a little each time. In terms of make-up, I swear by Clinique Pore Minimizer Instant Perfector – a Polyfilla for the face! I also find a light liquid foundation like Giorgio Armani Face Fabric glides over pores without emphasizing their depth. If you’re struggling with the oiliness of your skin, you might want to try a mineral powder like Bare Escentuals – they are quite extraordinary when applied with a proper brush.

this has been a very interesting read. I have to fight back adult acne by super cleaning my pores, which are indeed big. I had no clue about how to go about it, but there are some useful tips here so I’m bookmarking this for reference. Thanks!!
