Jean Paul Gaultier’s SS11 collection for La Perla

28 Oct

Jean Paul Gaultier is of course inextricably linked with the image of a corseted female torso – pointy breasts, dusky flesh tones and lots of intricate detailing to draw attention to the extremeties. So he was an obvious choice for creative input at the Italian house of La Perla following the departure of Alessandro Dell’Acqua. Famous for its handmade lace and the shapes and textures that are as sexy and wearable to women as they are alluring and seductive to men, La Perla is arguably the biggest name in the lingerie industry, hotly followed by Agent Provocateur.

This season Gaultier has created pieces that rocket back and forth between the 193os and 1950s – art deco lines, pin-up cuts and his distinctively angular bust shape come through, in that classic pale pink. Racier black and scarlet snap across the playful flesh tones and a burlesque theme is gently played on sheer knickers and structured corsetry. Frankly, the collection is divine.
