LFW: Angela Cassidy

The Knitty-Gritty…

Scottish knitwear designer and winner of the Scottish Fashion Award for Textile Brand of the Year, Angela Cassidy presented her second collection at LFW in September. Browns has already snapped her up for a collaborative project (to be seen at their stores throughout this AW/10 season) and when I went to have a look at her rails at ON/OFF’s Victoria House exhibition, people were swarming in her direction. Her pieces, unlike a lot of what you see at ON/OFF are incredibly wearable. She trusts us to recognise her outstanding technical abilities and imagination instead of using crazy shapes to attract students and journalists – a plan validated by Erin Mullaney and co. at Browns. If you’re anything like me, you’ll want to WEAR these beautiful pieces rather than just stare at them, to delight in her skill and talent. Would you agree?

I wasn’t aware of Angela – It is of course difficult to fully appreciate a collection like this through photography alone but she clearly has a commercial eye whilst thoroughly embracing those architectural shapes and designs that influence such a fluid knit and drape.

The tailored pieces I’m not entirely convinced by, particularly the shorts but I love all the knitted pieces – it’s good to see someone embracing subtle shoulder pads to ensure a great line.
