Travelling on the job: ITALY

22 Sep

Everyone’s off to Milan today for the Italian phase of the shows – Missoni and Marni and Gucci, oh my! Go check out the shows they are live streaming (go to to see which shows are available to view). Here is where those editors will be staying in Italia.

The Contintentale, Florence

Back in June I chose The Hotel Continentale for my honeymoon hotel, incidentally the same time as the editors were staying there for Pitti Uomo, the menswear fashion festival in Florence. On the banks of the Arno with views of the Ponte Vecchio, this hotel is so chic I had to eat breakfast in my suite so they didn’t see my bed hair. One of the Lungarno properties, owned by the Ferragamo family The Continentale is a slick and contemporary space within a Renaissance city of antique wealth. There’s a gym, a sushi-fusion restaurant, a rooftop cocktail bar and some of the most incredible views across Florence you’ll find.

The Santa Maria Novella, Florence

The year before, again for Pitti Uomo, I stayed at The Santa Maria Novella, a more traditional hotel on the square of the cathedral by the same name. It’s ornate and grand – a total contrast but a very Italian experience nonetheless. And the balconies make for good picnic time – go to the San Lorenzo Mercato Centrale for the best cheese, meet, fruit and prosecco.

Hotel Principe Di Savoia, Milan

Part of the Dorchester Collection, this is THE hotel to stay in during Milan Fashion Week. You’re bound to see designers, models and editors milling around in reception in February and September. It’s another opulent palace with lots of marble and heavy velvet curtains, and a FIERCE cocktail lounge.
